A new seven-unit transition home offering counselling and support to people experiencing family violence.
A New School
Design approved, with a $5 million contingency secured to keep the full-sized build on schedule.
Post-Secondary Support for Every Student
Council funded every eligible Wiikwemkoong student who applied when other funding fell short.
Child and Family Services Building
A new home for 70 staff, with a permanent facility for 120 staff in development.
Wiikwemkoong Connect Centre, Edmonton
A major commercial acquisition with tier-one tenants and expansion plans, generating revenue to support services at home.
Energy Partnerships
Agreements with Hydro One and membership in the Energy Corridor First Nations position Wiikwemkoong for equity ownership in major transmission projects.
Long-Term Settlement Trust
Settlement funds are protected through an independent trust and strict investment policy, secure today and growing for future generations.
A strong record is a foundation, not a finish line. In the next term, Ogimaa Tim Ominika will keep building, focused on five priorities:
His career has been on the front lines of mental health and wellness, at the Nadmadwin Mental Health Clinic, with Wikwemikong Ontario Works, at the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation, and as a Mental Health and Addictions System Specialist with the Anishinabek Nation. He served on CAMH's national Opioid Internal Network Advisory Committee, helped develop the "Making the Choice, Making it Work" addiction treatment resource, and contributed to Northern Ontario School of Medicine research on recovery. He's sat with our families in their hardest moments, and that's never left him.
He knows the business of building, too with experience at the Wikwemikong Development Commission and years of service on our school board. He studied Law and Justice at Laurentian University and Law and Security at Cambrian College. He also holds certificates from the University of Toronto and York University.
Before being elected Ogimaa in 2024, Tim served this community on Council for 10 years.
As Chief, his vision is simple: it's about people that’s why he’s focused on long-term, stable, recurring revenues that fund the roads, water mains, pensions for our elders, health programs, education and buildings our children and grandchildren will need.
He also represents Wiikwemkoong on the Anishinabek Nation Leadership Council.
His Anishinaabe names are Msko-Ngik (Red Otter), of Ma-iigan Doodem, the Wolf Clan.
